Northern Ramat

Second great stage of the Ramat de Camins! A route that will take you from the town of Àreu in Vallferrera, passing through Cardós Valley, Aigüestortes and Lake Sant Maurici National Park, and the Àneu Valleys, until reaching Aran Valley by crossing the mythical Bonaigua pass.

We have grouped the second block of five stages under the name of Northern Ramat. The first day begins in the town of Àreu, the last town in Vallferrera. Throughout the rest of the stages, you will discover the different valleys in the High Pyrenees, as well as the peripheral area of Aigüestortes National Park, ending in the neighboring Aran Valley.

Itinerary description

¡Primera gran etapa de Ramat de Camins! Llegarás a la Pobla de Segur con el mismo tren que llegaron los escritores Camilo José Cela y Josep Maria Espinàs y, siguiendo sus pasos, conocerás gran parte del Pallars Sobirà. Entra en el Pirineo por el mítico Desfiladero de Collegats y disfruta del Parque Natural del Alto Pirineo

Arrival in Àreu

From Àreu to Ribera de Cardós

Description:

We will get to Cardós valley passing by Tudela mountain pass, and following transhumance paths with splendid views. From there, we will go down to the bottom of the valley passing by charming villages.

From Ribera de Cardós to Escaló

Description:

A route that will make us leave the Cardós valley behind to return to the main valley of the Noguera Pallaresa river. We will visit the Romanesque monastery of Sant Pere del Burgal with its hermitages and the enclosed town of Escaló.

From Escaló to Espot

On this journey, we will go from Escaló to the Escrita valley, gateway to Aigüestortes National Park and Lake Sant Maurici. We will visit lake Sant Maurici, Ratera waterfall and a viewpoint from where we will enjoy beautiful views of Encantats Peak. It is recommended to use the 4x4 taxi service between Espot and Sant Maurici Lake.

From Espot to Esterri d'Àneu

From the National Park we will get to the heart of Àneu Valleys with a walk that will first allow us to contemplate them with aerial views. At the bottom of the valley, we will pass by the Mollerra d’Escalarre where we will find several hides to observe the birds of these wetlands.

From Esterri d'Àneu to Salardú

On the last day of the trekking, we will take the path to the Aran Valley through the mythical Bonaigua mounain pass, which will take us up to 2000m. Along the way, we will first pass by La Mata de València, the largest spruce forest in Catalonia.

Once the stage is over, a taxi will take us back to Àreu.

*Prices regarding low season in a shared room, except for the price of 1 person which already includes the supplement for the single room.
**If you would like to include single rooms, a supplement of 75€ in low season and **€ in high season will be added.
***During high season, a supplement of 40€ will be added to the total price of the program per person.

The route starts at Àreu. It can be reached by private vehicle through road L-504 / L-510 from Llavorsí.
