The Pyrenees mountain range ends in its easternmost part at the Mediterranean Sea. There, it has formed rocky and unique landscapes thanks to the effects of the north wind and the salinity of the sea, which have contributed to the formation of a landscape of great geological value due to the outcrops of metamorphic and granitic rocks with special shapes that have inspired artists such as Salvador Dalí or Josep Pla. The Cap de Creus Natural Park is home to these inspiring landscapes in which the Pyrenees jut into the sea in the form of dizzying cliffs. It is the first maritime-terrestrial park in Catalonia and has an integral nature reserve in it, the figure with maximum protection within the protected natural spaces. On the other hand, the Albera Natural Area is the protected mountain area closest to the sea and has a network of trails between vineyards and forests with the best views of the Mediterranean.
