FERA Pyrenees Mountain Gravel

THE ROUTE

The FERA is a circular route that runs through the heart of the Central Pyrenees, among the valleys of the rivers Noguera Pallaresa, Noguera Ribagorçana, Garona and Segre. The northern and southern sides of the mountain range. It has 506 km and 13,563 m of positive elevation, crosses several mountain passes above 2,000 m and reaches an altitude of over 2,400 m. The Pyrenean relief determines its level of demand.

It is the result of the commitment to share the best itinerary in order to discover the diversity of natural and cultural landscapes in the Central Pyrenees, always avoiding the busiest roads and looking for the most pedalable itineraries. It runs through high-mountain tracks which are entwined with small and paved roads, halfway between MTB and road bikes.

It is designed to be done in 8 stages with departure and arrival in La Pobla de Segur. It can also be divided into two independent sectors: FERA 300 and FERA 200, which consist of 5 and 3 stages respectively. Whenever possible, the stages start and end at the villages with more services and leisure options.

BACKGROUND

We created the FERA Pyrenees Mountain Gravel from our love to the territory that we live in and the willing to preserve it and share it. This project is the result of years of discovery and pedalling which now we want it to be ours.

We propose a living route, which is constantly evolving and improving, as well as committed to a respectful tourism model towards ecosystems and the societies that live in it. A project accessible by train and that promotes offsetting actions for the CO2 generated. A trip that cycles through living and inhabited mountains for thousands of years, shaped by extensive livestock farming and the use of natural resources. An area of borders, battles and exiles. A land with a great and diverse cultural legacy, where some of its traditions are UNESCO's World Heritage. A territory that hosts great natural and wild spaces, many of them protected, such as Aigüestortes & Lake Sant Maurici National Park and Alt Pirineu Natural Park. The kind of Pyrenees to discover without haste, with respect and enjoying each pedalling; willing not to leave a trace and where each cyclist becomes part of the landscape.

SUSTAINABILITY

The will of FERA Pyrenees Mountain Gravel is to discover and enjoy the Pyrenees, but above all, to respect, preserve and keep them alive. For this reason, we build the project around the following axes: bicycle, public transport, local consumption and offsetting CO2 emissions.

  • Bicycle as a means of transport that reduces the impact on the environment and enjoys it away from the rush, noises and smokes.
  • Public transport as a priority access to the route. The train as a vehicle to reach the Pyrenees and the starting point of the FERA.
  • Tourism linked to the territory in which it is developed, respectful of its inhabitants and regulations.
  • We are committed to a accommodation linked to the Pyrenean valleys, generating value and jobs, with trajectories and projects rooted in the territory. Spaces that offer a close treatment and that will make you feel at home.
  • Compensations for all those services that generate CO2 emissions and that will revert to conservation and local development projects.
